Hi Dancers,

I’m putting together a schedule for our ballet club summer intensive. Here’s the proposed dates & times - I’ll adjust as I get feedback from you all. Fill out the “Summer Intensive” form below this update to let me know your availability.

  • Tentative Dates/Times:

    • Week 1: Tuesday, June 1st, Thursday, June 3rd, Friday, June 4th

    • Week 2: Monday, June 7th, Thursday, June 10th, Friday, June 11th

    • Time: 10a-12p each day

Could you let me know by Wednesday? If it’s too short notice to get organized or we’d like a break right now, we can push back the start date.

Intensive Goals

  • Get technique coaching from someone new (me!) based on Cecchetti/Russian methods

  • Develop an independent daily routine

  • Define your own objective technique truths

  • Understand some key differences between classical and neoclassical ballet and feel empowered to choose when each is appropriate

Intensive Content

  • The “Big 4” for body maintenance

    • Day 1-Big 4 Overview: Alignment, plié, tendu, temps lié, + upper body work

    • Day 2-Applying Big 4 to devant & derrière positions, extensions, & turn preps

    • Day 3-Relevé, Finding your axis throughout barre work, Decide choreo piece

    • Day 4-Renewing Big 4 & applying to pointe work

    • Day 5-Applying Big 4 to choreography

    • Day 6-Bridging the gap between classical and neoclassical in choreography

Future Maybes

  • Cleveland Dance Fest is Nov. 5th & 6th

    • We could present a group dance?

    • We could present a suite of short solos?

    • I could choreograph for you guys, we could do some version of “classics,” or someone else in the group could choreograph if they want

    • Or hard no thank you? Deadline to submit an application is July 1st.

  • Continuing with the club after this intensive

    • Monday, Fridays, or Mondays & Fridays

    • Fit something around the NPB schedule to fill in the gaps

    • Daytime hours for consistency
